FIRE SCIENCE

Challenging, Rewarding, Meaningful

Hutchinson Community College Fire Science is here to meet your needs.   As a premier, degree-based program, we work with you on options to obtain a degree and also offer training for current emergency service personnel.   Our program offers numerous courses on-site, online, and also has the capability to teach classes at various sites through-out the State.   With a dedicated, professional faculty and staff, HCC Fire Science provides an educational opportunity that is challenging, rewarding and meaningful to students.

“Employment of fire fighters is expected to grow by 19% over the 2008-2018 decade, which is faster than the average for all occupations.  Prospective fire fighters are expected to face keen competition for available job openings.  Those who have completed some fire fighter education at a community college and have EMT or paramedic certification will have an additional advantage.”

Candidate Testing (CPAT)

The CPAT is a sequence of events requiring you to progress along a predetermined path from event to event in a continuous manner. This test was developed to allow fire departments to obtain pools of trainable candidates who are physically able to perform essential job tasks at fire scenes. Testing is done at our Fire Science East facility, 11319 S. Halstead Rd., Hutchinson, KS 67501. For more information contact HCC Fire: 620-728-4460 or 728-4465.

Fire Officer Program

HutchCC Fire Science is offering on-line education for current and future fire officers. Fire Officer I and Fire Officer II are now available as on-line courses. The Fire Officer courses are taught entirely on line and can be easily completed while the student is at the station; all that is needed is a computer with internet access. These courses were specifically designed to help educate the line firefighter/officer with minimum impact on their days off.
